RARE EARTHS
Hazen Research has been working with rare earth elements since 1965. We have completed over thirty different projects for numerous clients. Examples include:
- mineralogical examinations including quantitative characterization by QEMSCAN®,
- concentrating yttrium and rare earths by flotation,
- recovering monazite from heavy mineral sands,
- treating monazite processing wastes and contaminated soil,
- acid digestion (atmospheric and pressure) of ores and concentrates,
- byproduct rare earth recovery from perovskite,
- recovery and separation of rare earths by solvent extraction,
- and carbonate precipitation of bulk rare earths.
Our experience ranges from bench scale laboratory investigations to pilot plants running integrated processes to collect scale up data. Additionally, we have consulted for two operating rare earth plants and have experience with evaluation of rare earth occurences in carbonatites and alkali complexes in general, as well as pegmatitic occurrences.
